One of the most important this you can do when trying resolve or fix your issues is to start by getting a good picture of what your profile looks like. The first thing you do when trying to see this picture is to request your status. However, it really isn't good enough just to get one status check. You need to request them from all three of the major bureaus because different lenders talk to different bureaus and they don't necessarily talk to all three. Once you have your status from all three of the bureaus then you can start to get a good idea of where you stand as well as where you need to start to repair your profile.
The following is a list of the three major bureaus along with how you can contact them:
Experian - To order an Experian status call 1.888.397.3742 - If you want it delivered by mail then call 1.866.200.6020
Equifax - To order an Equifax status 1.800.685.1111 - or you can write to them at: Equifax Informatio n
Services, Inc. P.O. Box 740241 Atlanta, GA 30374
TransUnion - To order a TransUnion status call 1.800.888.4213 - or you can write to them at: TransUnion, 2 Baldwin Place, P.O. Box 2000, Chester, PA 19022
These days it is much easier than in the past to request information from the bureaus. Once upon a time, before the luxury of the Internet, all requests and communication with the bureaus had to be done in writing. You can imagine how long it could take to rectify or dispute any entries on your status in those days. Now, you can resolve issues in much shorter time frames.
You should also be aware that because of the Fair and Accurate Transactions Act (also known as the FACT ACT) you do not need to pay for a copy of your status, unless you request more than one a year. Also, if, in the last thirty days, you have been denied you have the right to request a free status to see why you were denied. You will find a link on any of the abo ve web sites that will point you to another site where you can reques t your status without paying a fee.
Obtaining a valid picture of your current standing is the first step in finding your solution.
Note: You can find the URL for the bureaus by doing an Internet search in the search engine of your choice. Due to ezinearticles.com's editorial guidelines I am prohibited from including more than two active or inactive URLs. My apologies for not being able to present this information.
