Learning how to write a credit repair letter is not difficult. All you need is the right information.
The first step is getting a copy of your credit report. If you don't know exactly what's on your credit report, then you're wasting your time trying to fix your credit. You can get a free copy of your credit report once a year from http://www.annualcreditreport.com. This is not one of those "get a free credit report when you sign up for our service" offers, and is really free.
The second step is to look over your credit report, write a list of your credit problems or use a colored highlighter pen to highlight them, and pick out the one you want to fix first. Credit repair doesn't work when you try to get all 37 late payments removed. It works best when you pick one problem, and request that it be removed. Then do the same with the next. And keep going until they're all gone (or at leas t most of them are removed).
The third (and most important) step is to start writing your letter. There's no magic formula to writing a credit repair letter, you just need to list the following information:
- your name
- your date of birth
- your social security #
- your address
- your credit card account #
- a brief description of the item you want removed
Warning: It is important that when writing your letter that you DO NOT admit that the item is correct. If you do this, you might was well not write the letter.
You should also NOT lie. Just don't say anything like "I was 3 months late on my payment but I want you to remove it." Instead, you should say something like "I want the late payment removed, and please provide me with written verification that the item is correct."
Legally, if the credit bureau cannot verify that the item is correct, they must remove it. In most cases, this alone will get the item removed. Keep in mind that when repairing your credit problems, it probably took you time to create the mess, so it may take a while to fix it.
So the fourth step is to keep writing letters requesting to remove the bad credit until you get it removed. Word each letter a little more strongly, and keep asking for written proof that the item is cor rect.
And the fifth step is to go back to step 2 and start working on the next credit problem.
If you keep trying, eventually your credit score will start rising, and your financial problems will start to improve!
